On November 15, GAC Group, one of China’s largest automakers, unveiled three innovative models at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show. These vehicles span the spectrum of electric mobility — from battery electric to range-extended and plug-in hybrid models: the S7, AION UT, and HYPTEC HL.
The S7, a large five-seater SUV, is hailed by GAC as its first vehicle featuring “advanced intelligence.” It boasts a 2.6-meter-long light strip, a third-generation all-wheel-drive PHEV system, and a combined driving range of over 1,000 km. Other standout features include AI-powered ambient lighting with eight preset mood modes, Northern Lights-inspired rear taillights, flush door handles, and rooftop lidars — all contributing to a stylish and futuristic driving experience.
Also debuting was the AION UT, described as one of GAC’s “global strategic models.” This premium electric hatchback stands out with its sleek, flowing silhouette, an ultra-long 2750 mm wheelbase, distinctive oval front headlights, and minimalist C-shaped taillights.
The youthful design continues inside the AION UT, featuring rounded design elements, a large floating central display, and a fully digital instrument panel. A thoughtful design detail is the positioning of the charging port on the front fender, showcasing AION’s meticulous attention to user experience.
The third highlight was the HYPTEC HL, a spacious six-seater SUV aiming to redefine luxury SUV standards. At 5126 mm in length, the HL is packed with premium features: refined ambient lighting, top-tier audio-visual systems, Alcantara headliner, and high-grade leather upholstery. The true luxury, however, lies in the second row, where passengers are treated to two massage chairs with an 18-point massage system, touchscreen controls, fast-charging ports, and extended armrests.
Under the hood, the HL houses a true breakthrough in energy innovation: a dual powertrain (pure EV and range-extended EV+REV), 800V 5C ultra-fast charging technology, and the world’s first amorphous electric transmission capable of 30,000 rpm. It offers a pure electric range of over 350 km, with a total range exceeding 1,200 km.
Together, these three new models highlight GAC Group’s ambition to lead the smart electric vehicle market as part of its global expansion strategy. The era of electric mobility has arrived — and Chinese EV brands are ready to share their cutting-edge automotive technology with the world.
